So far on this trip, I've been to:
- The highest point in the lowest state (in Delaware)
- The lowest point in the highest state (in Colorado)
- The highest city in the U.S. (also in Colorado)
- The lowest city in the U.S. (in California).
So I couldn't pass up visiting the highest point in the eastern United States. This is Mt. Mitchell in far western North Carolina. Sitting atop the Appalachian Mountains at a lofty elevation of 6,683', Mt. Mitchell is over a thousand feet higher than Denver, Colorado. This was my first visit to Mt. Mitchell and the view was spectacular.
