Set in the heart of the San Juan Mountains at an elevation of 8,671', Lake City, Colorado was founded in 1874 as a mining town, though in recent decades, mining has given way to tourism.  As a BLM ranger, I was stationed here for several years in the 1980's and Lake City is still one of my favorite towns in the U.S.
